Fort Saskatchewan- Time Magazine features the newest social networking site that lets you map and tell your friends where you are. Foursquare is the newest “Tweeter”, but instead of saying “tweet” you have to say “checking in”.

Foursquare background check traces its origin with the late Google Dodgeball whose map features allow friends to locate one another wherever they are. But after its creator, Dennis Crowley, left Google in 2007, he began developing the idea he had in Dodgeball adding gaming features. With the map features in hand they added certain rules that make up the game. This can be considered more like a tenant screening although checking out where a person is at isn’t limited to the home.

The added gist to the whole “locator mode” is that the series of counting how many times a person has entered a certain place like counting the times you came in a said coffee shop. Being the highest scorer (the highest number of times you had gone to that place) makes you that place’s “mayor”. There are more awards to be one depending on the points earned. It is for this reason that Foursquare has definitely hooked-up users. At present they have more than 150,000 users.

Even with great features, Foursquare will be facing a lot of problems, primarily with regards to their competition. Firstly there is Gowalla and Google Latitude (rebirth of Dodgeball), which offers the same features, and secondly, Facebook and Twitter are planning to have go for the same gaming features to connect more with their user.

Foursquare is now available in 100 cities and is still growing in popularity. At this point this social networking site is not pressured to make money immediately. Things take time and with its tenant screening-like characteristics, plus the scoring gaming advantage, this may be the online world’s next big thing.

Summary: It’s checking In as Foursquare comes to town. Background checks shows how many people are presently hooked up with social networking sites and with the map and game features, this new baby in town is definitely online world’s next big thing.
